1000A Lambar

Lambar is a unique busbar trunking system, offering neat, attractive distribution of power in commercial and industrial applications. The system is easy to install, requiring no cable trays or complicated terminations, and the strength of the construction over long runs means that fewer fixings per metre are required than cable. The design of the bend pieces and joining sections means that changes of direction can be incorporated in a far smaller space than would be possible with cable of a similar rating.

Lambar can be used in any distribution system including both traditional horizontal power systems (typical in factories) and rising main systems (as used in commercial buildings), or any combination of the two. The system has been designed to be both reusable (it can be taken down and re-installed at different sites in the event of re-location) and extendable utilising standard components. Modifications to the original scheme can be simply effected; any individual length can be removed without disturbing the run of trunking and replaced with bends, tee-offs etc.

Features of the Lambar System

Reduced installation costs
Due to the ease of installation and the strength of the construction over long runs; fewer fixings per metre are required than cable which leads to a significant reduction in installation times and invariably costs.

Increased voltage stability
In the manufacturing environment, motors starting on an already loaded system, or with welders imposing peaks, adverse disturbances can be caused to other equipment. In the commercial environment, where the use of voltage sensitive IT equipment is common, the stability of supply is a critical factor. In systems incorporating low reactance trunking (1000A Lambar and above), the overall voltage regulation of the transformer / feeder combination is better than with any other system. Voltage drop is minimised even over long runs of trunking.

Temperature withstand
In retail developments, large manufacturing facilities and large office blocks, the evacuation of personnel in the event of a fire is a serious issue. Lambar has been designed to withstand temperatures of up to 250ºC for up to two hours allowing ample opportunity for an orderly exit from the facility. Sectional fire barriers are also available.

'Makeweight' sections
Site conditions mean that accurate measurement is often difficult, and installation exactly to drawing specifications virtually impossible. The 'makeweight' sections, unique to the Lambar system, are a range of adjustable lengths allowing variations to be made up on site without the need for specially manufactured sections. They represent the installer's comfort factor: small deviations from the drawing can be taken up by adjusting the makeweight.

Feeder and Plug-in Trunking

Lambar is available in both 'feeder' and 'Plug-in' variations. Plug-in Lambar is supplied with the facility to plug in tap off devices to supply equipment along the length of the trunking. Feeder trunking is used for inter-connection of switchboards and between switchboards and transformers. Four types of fixing brackets are available for alternative mounting, together with a full range of standard bends, tee-offs, high/low interchanges and crossovers.

Tap-off boxes
Available for either flat or edge mounted systems and in plug-in or fixed configuration. Both can incorporate either fuse carriers, fuse switches or MCCB's. The plug-in system is fully shuttered (to prevent access to live copper when devices have been removed), and are non reversible (they can only be connected in the correct phase rotation). Also available are multiple outlet fixed tap off boxes, comprising for example a 400A incoming fuse switch and 4 x 200A outgoing fuse switches. These are ideal for use in rising main systems, or where there are sufficient plug-in points along a run to supply installed equipment.
